Abbott clinical liaison to cover diabetic foot ulcer supplements
James F. Lucas III, Abbott Nutrition clinical liaison, will give the Clinical Leaders Using Best-practices presentation, The Use of Specialized Nutritional Supplement for Diabetic Foot Ulcers," from 11 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in classroom 3A.

Vice chancellor to speak at fall faculty meeting
Dr. LouAnn Woodward, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs, is scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting set for noon on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).
Woodward will provide an update for the Medical Center and faculty with 20 years of service will be recognized. Flu shots will be available before and after the meeting from Student and Employee Health. Lunch will be available on a first-come basis.

Biobank Mississippi to host precision medicine research initiative
Biobank Mississippi will host a "Precision Medicine Research Initiative" in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic to bring awareness and engagement about precision medicine from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, Oct. 16-17, in the Guyton Research Center breezeway.

Dr. J. Michael Henderson, chief medical officer, will give the Department of Pathology Grand Rounds presentation, "UMMC Quality Journey," from 7-8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in classroom R354.

Wednesday, Oct. 17
Dr. John Ruckdeschel, UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute director, will host the quarterly Cancer Center and Research Institute Director’s Meetings on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The first meeting will take place from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Guyton Library on the first floor of the Guyton Research Center and the second meeting will take place from 4-5 p.m. in room MK1109 at the Jackson Medical Mall.
All UMMC and University of Mississippi employees who work with cancer patients are invited. The meetings will include an overview of CCRI objectives, an update on progress toward those objectives and a question-and-answer session.

Kutcher, UMMC assistant professor of trauma surgery and critical care, will present "Intra-abdominal Hypertension/Abdominal Compartment Syndrome;" and Dr. Jorge Castaneda, UMMC assistant professor of nephrology, will present "Albumin in the ICU" as part of the Southeast Chapter of the Society of Critical Care Medicine's "Bite-Sized Lecture Series" scheduled from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at UMMC.

Rebecca McDonald, founder and president of Women at Risk International, will give the Division of Continuing Health Professional Education and School of Medicine Community Service Team presentation, "Health Care's Role in Sex Trafficking," from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the student union.

Dr. Nicole Ashpole, assistant professor of pharmacology and research assistant professor in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Mississippi, will give the UMMC Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences Seminar Series presentation, "Exploring the Effects of IGF-1 and Cannabinoids in the Aging Brain," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in room N318 (classroom 3A) in the North Wing.

Selected graduate students from diverse backgrounds in a range of academic disciplines will participate in the annual Rural Interdisciplinary Case Experience (RICE) Bowl, an interactive competition to provide the best solution for a realistic scenario about complex rural health issues from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in lecture hall 124 in the medical education building.
Sponsored by the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities, the event will include participants from Jackson State University, Mississippi College, Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi and UMMC. A reception will follow the competition.

The John D. Bower School of Population Health will host a ribbon-cutting, holiday open house and food drive from 10:30 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the second-floor lobby of the Translational Research Center.
Following the ribbon-cutting, tours of the school will be offered. Guests are invited to help the school's faculty and staff celebrate Thanksgiving by bringing non-perishable food items for donation to the EversCare Food Pantry.
